Pivoting Isn’t a Bug — It’s the Point
Working with AI agents isn't a straight-line process.
And that's great for me. Because when working on complex documents, I tend to change my mind a lot.
Not slowly, not after hours of reflection, sometimes right in the middle of a conversation. And recently, I tested what happens when I do that inside a Word document using our agent.
Here’s the reality: most agentic software doesn’t handle that well...
You pick a direction, then you commit. And if your thinking evolves halfway through, you’re stuck, either wrestling with the tool or starting over entirely.
It’s how competent people operate every single day. Priorities may change. Ideas will continue to evolve. Better approaches emerge mid-process. On any random Tuesday, you’ll find yourself rethinking something halfway through.
So why do our tools still assume we knew exactly what we wanted from the start?
In the video linked below, I’m working inside Word with SquarePact’s agent. Midway through, I completely shift what I’m asking it to do.
No restart.
No new session.
No re-explaining everything from scratch.
It just follows, because that’s what real work looks like.
Changing your mind isn’t a flaw in your thinking.
It shouldn’t be a flaw in your software either.
